Tell the salon what is already on your nails before requesting removal or a new set. If you do not know the product, say so and share photos. Ask the provider to confirm the suitable service, whether removal is included in the quote, and how it changes the complete appointment time.

Identify what you can, without guessing
Useful information includes the previous salon’s service name, a product name if recorded, and how long ago the set was applied. These details help frame the discussion but do not replace the receiving technician’s assessment. “I am not sure” plus a clear photo is more useful than confidently giving the wrong product category.
Removal-only and removal-plus-colour are separate plans
State whether you want to leave with bare nails, a new colour or a new structural service. Ask for each step in writing. A low removal line may not include the shaping, preparation or finish you expect afterwards. Conversely, a salon may offer its own combined package; ask rather than assume.
Explain the whole set
If there are extensions, substantial decorations or mixed products, include a side view as well as a top view. Ask whether a final decision requires an in-person assessment. Do not rely on another salon’s menu label to establish how the receiving salon will handle the work.
Allow time for the assessment
Do not plan from the colour duration alone. Ask how much time the salon expects for your current set and the replacement service. If you have a hard departure deadline, share it before the appointment is accepted and ask what can realistically be completed.
Keep this a professional service conversation
This guide does not provide a do-it-yourself removal procedure. Ask the provider for instructions appropriate to the product you have and keep the service record for future appointments. If the salon changes the proposed service after seeing your nails, agree on the revised price and timing before work starts.
Questions before you book
Can I book removal if I do not know my gel brand?
You can ask for a consultation. Send photos, explain that the product is unknown and let the salon confirm what it can offer.
Is removal always free with a new manicure?
No universal rule applies. Ask whether it is included, separate or part of a provider-specific package.
Does a colour-change booking allow time for extensions removal?
Do not assume so. State the existing product and ask the salon to plan the complete visit.
